Nearly 11,000 LIPA customers in Syosset and Woodbury remain in the dark as of Wednesday afternoon.

7,420 customers were without power in Syosset while 3,434 remained in blackout mode in Woodbury as of Wednesday at 3 p.m.

The status of Syosset continues to be listed as "assessing condition" while Woodbury is reported as "updating estimate."

LIPA took criticism from Rep. Steve Israel Tuesday when he said “This is a real test for LIPA…There will be no excuses. LIPA during Irene did not perform satisfactorily. They said they got their act together. We’ll be watching.”

Others defended LIPA's efforts.

"The damage is widespread and insane. Give these guys a break. They don't have power either," wrote Daniel Franc on Facebook.

According to LIPA, almost 1 million customers were cut off as a result of Hurricane Sandy and full restoration may not come for at least a week.
