Three weeks after Long Beach residents awoke to the destruction of their cars, memories, and lives as they knew it, one Syosset chef will be giving them a nearly forgotten taste of home.

The Black Wolf American Kitchen & Bar's Chef Barret Beyer will head to Long Beach Tuesday morning offering free home cooked meals to residents, police and fire responders, and others in need.

"I didn't want to sit back and do nothing," said Beyer, who organized the operation. "I wanted to help. So I organized something to give back."

Beyer, a graduate of Star Career Academy, will offer food in the Long Beach City Hall parking lot beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Chefs Richard T. Schrimp and Thomas Warshaw, owners of Bella Skye Culinary Kitchens in West Islip, will accompany Beyer on the trek in an RV they converted into a kitchen.

With three professional chefs at the wheel of the mobile kitchen, visitors will be served much more than the military-grade rations they received in the days after Sandy hit.

"We're making chicken marsala, sausage and peppers, chili, penne alla vodka," said Beyer. "We'll stay until the food runs out."

A simple callout on Beyer's Facebook page brought donations from friends and customers for the cause. The Black Wolf owner then essentially matched what Beyer raised, which brought in a total of $350 for food and gas, he said.

"It's not much, but I know how to shop," said Beyer, who used his expertise in the field to shop smartly Monday and get about 200 pounds of food.

"We'll be serving law enforcement, the crews, families, everyone," said Beyer.

The truck will stay in the city hall parking lot until 5 p.m. or until the chefs run out of food.
