Van Bursts Into Flames On LIE

The expressway was shut down for over an hour during rush hour Monday morning.

SYOSSET, NY - A van fire broke out on the Long Island Expressway during rush hour on Monday morning, according to Nassau Police.

The van became disabled before bursting into flames westbound on the LIE near exit 43 in Syosset at about 6:30 a.m.

The van was a contractor's van and was towing a trailer of some kind. It is unknown how the fire was started.

No injures were reported.

The Syosset Fire Department was assisted by the Jericho Fire Department.

Police reported that all lanes were shut down at about 7 a.m. At about 8 a.m. the right lane remained closed.

As of about 9:40 a.m., the road has been reopened.
