DEC Releases Plan for Final Clean-Up of GM Site

DEC Releases Plan for Final Clean-Up of GM Site

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has decided on a plan for the  of the 95-acre GM site and adjacent sections of the Hudson River.

The plan, released June 11, builds on remedial actions which have already been taken to remove soil and treat water contaminated by lead, mercury, petroleum products and other pollutants discharged by the auto manufacturing process.

The plan calls for remedial actions for the protection of public health and environment including the removal of removal of approximately 4,400 cubic yards of Hudson River sediment near Ichabod's Landing. In addition, the plan restricts contact with ground contaminants by removing, treating or covering polluted soil. River dredging may begin in November.

The entire report can be read at:  www.dec.ny.gov/docs/remediation_hudson_pdf/c360070dd.pdf or at  www.sleepyhollowny.gov.
