Manhole Fire in Elmsford

Electrical equipment was damaged at 2 Westchester Plaza. Electricity and gas were cut off overnight.

ELMSFORD, NY — Thirty customers lost gas service and 2 Westchester Plaza lost electricity due to a manhole fire in Elmsford Monday. The fire was started by burnout on an underground electrical cable. Con Edison workers were on the scene Tuesday morning.

Water and sewer were not affected, said John K. Devany, Water & Sewer Superintendent for the town of Greenburgh.

Con Ed spokesman Allan Drury said the fire was reported to the utility at 2:33 p.m. Monday. Con Ed turned off electricity to 2 Westchester Plaza and gas to 30 customers.

Customers whose electrical equipment was damaged had to have it repaired. Con Ed workers expected to restore gas service and check on the status of electric repairs Tuesday.
