Rivertown Runners Host a Costumed 10K

694 runners circuit Sleepy Hollow on Saturday to raise money for local charities.

Running a 10K is no easy feat, but try running as a hotdog, Sherlock Holmes, a banana, or cow...with the headless horseman on your tail.

The Rivertown Runners annual event on Saturday was a vibrant success, with hundreds of participants, many costumed, raising money for local charities and circuiting Sleepy Hollow from Morse School through the Manors and beyond.

Last year, there were 250 10K runners. This year there were 80 kids running through the streets of town for the 1-mile "fun run" and nearly 700 10K runners.

Race director, club founder and president, Kristen Idalski, said, "the runners were full of praises about how beautiful our town is, the gorgeous view on the course, the friendliness of those involved and the awesome folks dressed in costume on the course."

The winners were: 21-year-old Luke McCambley of Westport, CT, with a finish time of 33:55, and Kristin Vespa of Ossining with a finish time of 40:41.
