A fire ripped that through a home at 77 Mud Road in Setauket around 11 p.m. Saturday night took firefighters about six and a half hours to extinguish.

According to the Setauket Fire Department, neighbors said the home's occupants were on vacation at the time of the blaze. The fire had spread throughout the home with the exception of the garage and one area of the second floor when crews arrived.

Third assistant chief Tom Makarius said the home was a total loss.

"The house was fully engulfed in flames," he said. "We were never able to enter the house. It was too involved."

Makarius said about 100 firefighters from the Setauket, Port Jefferson, Centereach, Selden, and Stony Brook fire departments battled the blaze while the Terryville Fire Department stood by at the Main Street covering the district.

No injuries were reported.

"Six and a half hours is a long night," Makarius said.
