The bluffs of the Old Field Lighthouse were shored up this spring at a cost of $800,000, according to village treasurer Andrea Brosnan.

The winning bidder for the job was Huntington Station-based AMMA Construction Corp.

"The process leading up to the revetment took considerably longer than the job itself," Brosnan said. "We needed approval and surveys from agencies, including the Department of Environmental Conservation."

Nearly five years after receiving the green light to move ahead, the redevelopment was completed within three months.

The Old Field lighthouse is one of 17 working lighthouses on Long Island.

It was completed in September of 1869 to accommodate shipping traffic in the Long Island Sound.
