School District to Get Slates, Mini Grants from Foundation

The Three Village Central School District is the recipient of over $10,000 worth of technology and teacher grants from the Three Village Educational Foundation for the coming school year.

Ten mini slates worth $2,871.20 will be provided by the foundation. The mini slates are companion technology to the district's new whiteboards, which will be installed in each of the high school's new science classrooms by September, according to Kerrin Welch-Pollera, executive director of instructional technology.

In a letter to the foundation dated May 13, science department chairperson Dr. Marnie Kula and chemistry teacher Samantha Chereb said the slates will benefit all students enrolled in science classes.

"The mini slate further levels the playing field in that all students will be able to take full advantage of this technology – instead of having to go to the board, the board can go to the student," Kula and Chereb wrote.

Welch-Pollera also said individual teachers in the district will be awarded mini grants from the Three Village Educational Foundation totaling $9,955 for project proposals they submitted earlier this year.
