Stony Brook celebrates annual Sakuri Matsuri cherry blossom festival

Wang Center event features traditional and modern Japanese Music, Dance and Martial Arts performances

Sponsored by the Japan Center at Stony Brook, the Charles B. Wang Center, and the Japan Foundation, and produced by the Ryu Shu Kan Japanese Arts Center of Farmingville, which offers karate, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, Tai Chi and Taiko drumming, this years Sakura Matsuri festival featured:


- Koto and Samishen performances
- Traditional Japanese dance
- Samurai sword demonstrations
- Go board game tournaments
- Taiko drum performances
- Karate and Naginata martial art demonstrations
- Kimono fashions
- Origami workshops
- Tea ceremony
- Shakuhachi bamboo flute and Haiku poetry
- Cosplay shows
