The Department of Transportation has been installing crosstown bike lanes on the Upper East Side since July.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The Department of Transportation announced that it would install crosstown bike lanes on the Upper East Side this summer, and a photo taken Friday shows workers putting up signage for the East 78th Street bike lane.
The DOT said it would install bike lanes on four Upper East Side streets that would stretch from Central Park to the East River. Painted lanes are to be installed on on 70th, 71st, 77th and 78th streets and the construction process began in July, according to DOT plans.

In May, the DOT presented a plan for the bike lines at a Community Board 8 meeting. The community board voted down six possible bike lanes, but the DOT is going ahead with four lanes anyway.
