100s Without Power After Manhole Explosion On UWS: FDNY
The manhole exploded near Central Park West and West 108th Street shortly before 2 a.m., officials said.
UPPER WEST SIDE, MANHATTAN — A manhole explosion near Central Park has left hundreds of residents without power.
The manhole erupted just before 2 a.m. near Central Park West and West 108th Street, bringing 29 firefighters to put it out, an FDNY spokesperson said. The fire was under control about an hour later.
But at least 611 people near Central Park West, West 108th and 107th streets were still without power from the fire around 9:30 a.m., according to Con Edison's outage map.

Police also closed down Central Park West between West 106th and 109th streets because of the explosion. The road was still closed as of 8:30 a.m., according to police.

There were no injuries from the fire, the FDNY spokesperson said.
