Man, 83, Killed By Postal Truck On Upper West Side: Police

The man was in the intersection of West 95th Street and Amsterdam when he was struck and killed by a postal truck.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — An elderly man was struck and killed Friday morning by a postal truck on the Upper West Side, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

The 83-year-old man was walking in the intersection of West 95th Street and Amsterdam Avenue around 6 a.m. when he was hit by the postal truck traveling Northbound on Amsterdam, police told Patch. The man was transported to St. Luke's hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The NYPD is still investigating the fatal collision, police said. A department spokesman could not confirm whether the elderly pedestrian or the motorist were in the intersection against the light, as the investigation is still in its early stages.
