Sinkhole Opens On UWS Street For 2nd Time In 1 Month, FDNY Says
The sinkhole was four by six feet large and 10 feet deep, an FDNY spokesman said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A sinkhole opened up on an Upper West Side street Friday afternoon for the second time in a month, an FDNY spokesman said.
The sinkhole, which was cause by a "water emergency," appeared around 12:30 on West 82nd Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West, an FDNY spokesman said. The hole was about four by six feet large and 10 feet deep, the FDNY spokesman said.
Crews had the hole cordoned off by 12:50, an FDNY spokesman said.

A broken private water pipe belonging to an apartment building on the street caused the sinkhole to form, a spokesman for the city Department of Environmental Protection said. The city has directed the building to make the appropriate repairs and water service was restored to customers on the block, the spokesman said.
The street is not closed down to traffic, the DEP spokesman said.

In November, a water main rupture on the same block caused a large sinkhole to eat away at the street. The city DEP said that the water main was defective and performed repairs on the street.
