When Bellmore developer Larry Weinberger acquired the former Nassau OTB property in Wantagh for $3.4 million he had a vision of national retailers setting up shop in the 0.72-acre parcel on 3240 Sunrise Hwy. and as 2012 winds down, that foresight is coming to fruition.

Two months after national frozen yogurt franchise Red Mango was the first business to open in the new retail plaza, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza has plans to welcome customers by the end of December. A national math learning center called Mathnasium is also set to open on the property by the spring and Weinberger of MGD Investments in Bellmore said there has been plenty of interest in the last piece of space being leased.

“We’re getting a tremendous amount of inquiries and we’re trying to get the best possible tenant since it's the last spot open in the center,” said Weinberger, who is also in the process of developing a property in neighboring Bellmore on 2381 Merrick Rd. “The interest has been tremendous.”

Weinberger said that when the center is completely filled sales tax revenue for Nassau County is projected to be around $900,000 with 50 jobs also created.
