Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano pursues bicycle rental facility at Seaford park.

RFP Issued for Bicycle Concession at Cedar Creek Park

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) Wednesday seeking the establishment of a bicycle rental concession at in Seaford.

The county is requesting proposals from all individuals and firms that have interest in managing and operating rental stations to provide bicycles as well as the repair and sale of bike equipment accessories at the park, which is located off Merrick Road. The RFP also seeks a bicycle rental concession at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, which has roughly 20 miles of paved bike paths.

“Recreational cycling has become increasingly more popular as it provides everyone with an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while taking part in a healthy activity,” said Mangano in a statement. “We are committed to providing residents and visitors with a wide range of recreational activities in our parks, and biking along Nassau County’s paths and trailways is a great way to enhance the experience.”

Mangano said prospective vendors must have a history of community involvement as well as extensive experience in the bicycle rental business. The successful bidder may also suggest additional locations in the Nassau County parks system for bicycle rental concessions, Mangano stated.

Cedar Creek Park is adjacent to a 4.5 mile paved bike path that runs along the Wantagh State Parkway before ending at Ocean Parkway. The New York State Department of Transportation has planned an additional 4.5-mile bike path to connect Ocean Parkway between the Wantagh Parkways and Captree State Park in the Town of Babylon.
