Police have shut down one lane on the southbound side of Wantagh Avenue to investigate what they are describing as a suspicious fuel spill.

According to Nassau County Seventh Precinct officers, the source of the spill is unknown, and police set up flares to block the southbound right lane across from the new Wantagh Starbucks.

The spill caused traffic backup on both sides of Wantagh Avenue, and sand trucks were dispersed to the scene to help contain the spill.

"We are still looking into this," police added.

This is a breaking news story, and Patch will provide more information as it's made available.
