School officials offer tips to help in talking to children about the tragedy.

Wantagh School Officials React to Connecticut Shooting

School districts across the region are responding to the shooting tragedy in a Connecticut Elementary school with assurances that emergency preparations are in place and up to date.

Acting Superintendent of Schools Maureen Goldberg posted the following letter on the Wantagh School District website:

"Images of this horrific event will continue to fill television screens and Internet postings for the foreseeable future and especially this weekend. Undoubtedly these photos will be upsetting to children of all ages."

The district's Crisis Intervention Team met Friday and collected several documents to assist parents in speaking to their children about the tragedy.

"Please know that our staff will stand ready to assist the children on Monday as they return to school," continued Goldberg. "Do not hesitate to alert us to any particular issues that you or your children may be experiencing."
