New Italian Street Food Restaurant Mr. Panzerotto Comes to Greenwich Village
Mr. Panzerotto specializes in the Italian classic panzerotto—a half-moon shaped, fried turnover similar to a calzone.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — A new restaurant featuring unique Italian street food opened last week on MacDougal street. The joint Mr. Panzerotto specializes in the Italian classic panzerotto, which translates to "belly dough" in Italian.
Panzerotto is a half-moon shaped, fried turnover typically filled with tomato sauce and mozzarella and ham and spinach. The panzerotto resembles a calzone, except it's fried instead of baked.
The restaurant is run by Milan native Christian Francone, Gothamist reports. Francone's parents are from the Apulia region of Italy, where panzerotto was originally created. Patch reached out to Francone and we're waiting to hear back.

According to Mr. Panzerotto's website, their restaurant is the "only place in NYC to experience the authentic taste of Panzerotto. Or … you should take a quick trip to Italy and visit my mom's kitchen."
