5 Injured In Crash Involving 18-Wheeler, 3 Cars, Truck: Cops

Another crash took place at the same time just a half mile east, officials say.

EASTPORT, NY — First responders raced to the scene of a multi-vehicle collision on Sunrise Highway Tuesday involving three cars, two trucks and an 18-wheeler, according to the Eastport Fire Department.

The fire department responded to the crash, which took place at 1:05 p.m. between Exit 61 and Exit 63; five people were treated by Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance Association and East Moriches Ambulance, officials said.

The extent of the injuries was not immediately known, according to John Dalen, public information officer for Eastport Fire Department.

Eastport Fire Department Chief Mark Yakaboski arrived on the scene; one of the vehicles involved was an 18-wheel semi-tractor trailer, EFD said.

Suffolk County sheriffs, Southampton Town Police and New York State Police were at the scene to complete the investigation into the cause of the accident, officials said.

Traffic was shut down eastbound through area until the scene was cleared.

Additional assistance was provided by Westhampton Beach Fire Department, who were assisting at a prior crash about a half mile east of the scene, Dalen said.
