Southampton Incident Reports: Burglaries, Larcenies

Recent crimes and suspicious incidents reported to the Southampton Town Police Department.

Petit Larceny

• A Riverside resident told police on Dec. 15 that someone claiming to be a building inspector duped him out of $400 by telling the homeowner that his property was in violation of the town’s smoke and alarm ordinance and the fine was $400.

• A Hampton Bays woman reported to police on Dec, 12 that a wallet she left in a shopping cart outside of King Kullen was stolen. Police said they have been unable to locate any witnesses.

• A Quogue man reported to police on Dec. 10 that someone entered his unlocked car and stole a leather tote bag. The man told police his car was parked in the Knights of Columbus parking lot in Hampton Bays.

• A North Haven resident told police that on Dec. 13 someone entered his work van, which was parked on Sag Turnpike and stole two drills and a flashlight. He told police the van had a padlock on it, but it had been removed by the thief. 

Leaving the Scene

A Center Moriches woman reported on Dec. 11 that a dark colored SUV pulled out of the Hess Station on Country Road 39 in Southampton and struck her car and then continued along the road, heading west. Police say there are no leads at this time.

A Noyack resident told police on Dec. 7 that in the overnight hours someone damaged his car, which was parked outside his house. He told police that over $1,000 in damage was done.

Criminal Mischief

• An East Quogue woman reported to police on Dec. 12 that someone damaged her car, which was parked in East Quogue.  She said damage was found on the driver’s door, rear bumper and side panel and lights.

Grand Larceny

• A Sag Harbor woman reported to police on Dec 16 that someone stole items from her purse, which was hanging on a coat hook under her coat. Items taken included credit cards, gift cards, driver’s license and various ID's and paystubs.

Burglary

• A Hampton Bays resident reported to police that on Dec. 12 someone entered her home and took $700 that was hidden in an office drawer under paperwork. She told police that whoever took the money entered through the rear of the home, which she leaves unlocked.

• A Southampton resident reported to police on Dec. 12 that someone entered through his basement and stole a 32-inch flat-screen television, a DVD player and copper piping.
