Good Sam to Host Free Bereavement Seminar

Good Samaritan Hospital recently announced that they will host a free community bereavement seminar to assist residents with strategies for coping with the loss of loved ones during the holiday season.

The seminar will take place on Nov. 1 from 7-8:30 p.m. inside the hosptial's patio cafe conference room.

Good Sam said that the seminar will be hosted by the Good Shepard Hospice, along with bereavement coordinator Clarice Curry, and will provide successful coping mechanisms just in time for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah.

The hospital includes the following tips as examples:

  • Be gentle, compassionate and accepting of yourself.  It’s normal to feel out of sorts with the cheerful tone of the season.  Holidays can magnify feelings of loss of a loved one.
  • Self care is necessary for those who are grieving.  Remember to eat well, exercise and get enough rest.  Be aware of food and alcohol consumption.  Maintaining a healthy body can help you feel stronger and able to cope with difficult feelings.
  • Reach out to family and friends and let them know how you are feeling and what you need and allow them to support and comfort you.

There will be refreshments served and due to high demand, registration is recommended.  Call (631) 376-4444 to reserve your seat.
