Good Sam Doctor Saves Patient's Life

Ralph Barbato is the hospital's most recent winner of their Physician of the Quarter program.

Good Sam Doctor Saves Patient's Life

Ralph Barbato, doctor of osteopathic medicine at Good Samaritan, was recently recognized for saving a patient's life, the hospital reported.

Barbato was nominated by Connie Gennaro, of Brentwood, who credited the doctor for saving her husband's life.  Good Sam said that  Barbato discovered that Legionella was causing Mr. Gennaro’s kidneys to fail, and ordered that he received urgent dialysis treatments.

“If it weren’t for Dr. Barbato, my husband would be either gone or on permanent dialysis.”  Gennaro told Good Sam.

Gennaro said she truly believes that Barbato’s actions saved her husband.

For his efforts, Barbato was presented with a plaque as the winner of the hospital’s Physician of the Quarter program.  Gennaro received a check for $100 for her nomination.

According to Good Sam, the Physician of the Quarter Program is meant to "recognize compassionate physicians who have provided outstanding care to patients."

Throughout the year, Good Sam takes nominations for the program.  Patient letters should be no longer than 300 words and should be sent to:

Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center
