Talk Back: Are Taxes The Key To Budget Fix?

Town of Islip announces its plan to raise taxes 65% to fix fiscal crisis.

Talk Back: Are Taxes The Key To Budget Fix?

On Monday the Town of Islip revealed that its preliminary budget calls for a 65-percent tax increase. The increase would only apply to the Town portion of residents' property tax bills, but would still be a significant jump in what taxpayers are used to shelling out. The average homeowner in Islip will pay an additional $225 in taxes next year if the proposal goes through.

Is this the best course of action for Islip Town? What more do you think should be done to help balance the budget while not overburdening taxpayers?
