You could say that Dr. Charles Howlett, of West Islip, was born to be a veteran, in fact his birthday really is on Veteran's Day.

Howlett, a retired Marine Corporal who served during the Vietnam War, says military service is a tradition of his family as every generation has served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Howlett is also a retired social studies teacher and graduate education professor at Molloy College. He continues to serve as an Air Force Academy Liaison officer and as a captain in the New York Guard.

Check out the video to see what he had to say about being a veteran and the importance of military service to America.
