Each week we'll introduce you to one of the great shows on White Plains Public Access.

This week we introduce you to: “This Blooming City”

Host: White Plains resident Beth Wallach, and former president of the White Plains Beautification Foundation (WPBF), has been hosting the non-profit organization’s public access show since first aired 1990.

What’s this show about: With the help of guests, Wallach hopes to educate the public what the WPBF does and how they can help, too.

“I hope they learn more about sensible gardening,” said Wallach. “I hope they get an enthusiasm for flowers and trees and nature. And, also, an idea of what the Beautification Foundation does.”

The WPBF has been doing work as a non-profit organization in White Plains since 1965, and has put over $2 million dollars back into the city in the form of gardens, trees, sculptures, murals and more (a list of the foundation’s projects can be seen here).

“There are still people who don’t even know who does it,” said Wallach. “They just assume the City does it. And we don’t get government funding, we do our own fundraising.”

On her show, Wallace advocates natural gardening and how to avoid chemicals whenever possible. She routinely welcomes Master Gardeners, landscapers and fellow WPBF board members onto the program to offer tips.

“This Blooming City”, airs twice weekly on Tuesday at 9 p.m. and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on the City's public access channels

45 for Verizon and 76 for Cablevision. The show has been on the air for so long, that Wallach admits she has long since lost count of how many episodes she has filmed.
