A 24-year-old Southeast man who officials dubbed a "major Putnam heroin distributor" has been sentenced to three years in state prison.
Franyelis Ramos was convicted Dec. 11 of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony, Putnam County District Attorney announced Thursday.
Investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Enforcement Unit arrested Ramos in January 2013.
Ramos brought heroin from the Bronx to Putnam County, according to authorities. He sold it at his Old Route 6 home and the local BP Gas Station.
His arrest came after an investigation that lasted several months. Officials said then he was peddling roughly 1,000 bags of heroin—having a street value of about $12,000—weekly.Assistant District Attorney Heather Abissi prosecuted the case. Following a grand jury indictment, Ramos pleaded guilty. His sentence includes two years post-release supervision.
