Volunteers Needed For Cain Park Dog Walking Pilot

Cain Park Neighborhood leaders are looking for volunteers to help pilot a program to allow leashed dogs in Cain Park.

The Dog Project, spearheaded by Kerri Whitehouse of the Cain Park Neighborhood Association, is a pilot program that would allow dog owners to walk their leashed, non-aggressive dogs in Cain Park beginning in April.

The project is seeking a temporary lift on a dog ban that has been in effect in Cain Park for four decades, according to project leaders.

A similar program in Lakewood resulted in a ban being lifted in two parks in 2011.

But volunteers are needed: the project is seeking people to replenish dog waste bags in stations throughout the park during the project's pilot.

"Our pilot program seeks to make Cain Park a dog-friendly community space that would allow tax-paying citizens to walk leashed, non-aggressive dogs within the park. Doing so will encourage foot traffic and put more eyes in the area.”

Cleveland Heights City Council is expected to vote on the project next month.
