The owner of the new Dunkin' Donuts planned at the former site of a gas station at 525 E. Main St. across from Kent State University has the green light for construction.

City building officials recently issued a building permit for construction on the new eatery, which is projected to cost $700,000 to build, according to the permit.

Ken Bloom, the franchisee who will operate the store, told the city's planning commission last fall that construction will take three to four months on the building.

At the earliest, the new Dunkin' Donuts could be open by September 2013.
