Kentite Charged in Meth Lab Bust

A Kent man is facing charges of making meth along with two other Portage County residents after members of the Portage County Drug Task Force broke up a lab in Franklin Township Tuesday.

The drug task force charged Robert J. Akers, of 6395 West Shore Drive, with illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine, a second-degree felony, after agents discovered a lab at his residence.

Acting on a tip, task force agents spent two days investigating the lab before obtaining a warrant to enter the residence, where officers found four people making meth, the remnants of an active lab and finished product in the attic of the residence.

Along with Akers, agents arrested Michael D. Piskac, 30, of Ravenna, OH, and Ashley Ann Mitrovic, 23, of Tallmadge, OH. Piskac and Mitrovic were arrested on charges of making meth earlier this month by task force agents.

Members of the drug task force who specialize in clandestine drug lab clean-up assisted the Kent Fire Department and a chemical disposal company in collecting evidence and dismantling the lab.

Portage County Drug Task Force is comprised of members from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Portage County Prosecutor’s Office, Cities of Aurora, Kent, Ravenna and Streetsboro and the Village of Garrettsville, U.S. Drug Enforcement and U.S Department of Homeland Security.
