Efforts to relocate the historic Kent Wells Sherman House may be nearing an end.
The Kent Community Development Department recently issued a foundation permit that would allow the non-profit working to move the house, Kent Wells Sherman House, Inc., to build a foundation for the house on the lot owned by the group at 247 N. Water St.
And Portage County Common Pleas Judge John Enlow recently set a hearing date in the court battle over the relocation for March 1 on the permanent injunction request made by the Save the Standing Rock Garden, a group of residents who oppose moving the house to the greenspace on North Water Street.
The foundation permit issued Feb. 12 only addresses the foundation. Other building code requirements of the relocation, such as electrical and utility connections, have yet to be signed off on by city building officials.
