14 Arrests for Drugs, Prostitution at Days Inn in Last Year

The 66-room motel has new owners, and that's good news, say city officials.

14 Arrests for Drugs, Prostitution at Days Inn in Last Year

Last week’s arrest of a Cleveland woman for prostitution was just the latest in a number of undercover operations at the Days Inn motel on Lake Avenue.

Since October 2011, 14 people have been arrested on prostitution-related charges at the motel.

Lakewood Police Chief Timothy Malley said the arrests have been part of an “ongoing investigation.”

With cooperation from the Days Inn, the police took a room at the motel and set up a sting operation twice during the past year.

In August 2012, the police department arrested seven people for “drugs and prostitution” during a sting operation, said Malley.

And in October 2011, officers rounded up a half-dozen people on prostitution charges.

The manager of the Days Inn declined to comment on the police investigation Wednesday, but she did say “we don’t have any control over what our guests do” in their rooms.

Another employee said that he’s pleased with the police intervention, because “obviously, they’re no longer here.”

Ownership of the 66-room motel recently changed hands — and that’s good news for city officials who are looking to cut down on crime in the area.

“It’s been in the wrong hands the last few years,” said Lakewood Law Director Kevin Butler.

“It can only go up from here.”
