City Council Sends Ordinances Back to Committee

Proposal to add "sharrows" on Detroit Avenue, others not quite ready.

City Council Sends Ordinances Back to Committee

The Lakewood City Council was poised to move forward on several ordinances at its meeting Monday evening, but instead referred them to committees for further review.

On hold for now are ordinances and resolutions to:

• authorize adding "sharrows" on Detroit Avenue to remind motorists and bicyclists to share the road

• dispose of unsold surplus property

• regulate yard and garage sales, or "Display for Sale of Household Goods and Furnishings from Nonretail Occupancies"

• make filing of unpaid judgments with the municipal court discretionary rather than mandatory

• encourage and manage on-site storm water management, such as the use of rain barrels

• authorize a feasability study related to hotel, banquet facility and bed-and-breakfast uses in Lakewood.

The council did approve several resultions, including a resolution to approve an agreement with the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging to accept and expend PASSPORT program funds to deliver meals for the fiscal period of July 1 2012, to June 30, 2014. The program provides more than 5,000 meals a year.

The council approved the tax budget budget for the city for 2013 to be filed with the fiscal officer of Cuyahoga County.
