COX Cable Drops WOIO

The cable service provider and TV station were unable to reach an agreement by the Jan. 1 deadline.

COX Cable Drops WOIO

Thousands of Lakewood residents looking to watch TV shows such as NCIS were disappointed to learn the COX Cable had dropped WOIO, the local CBS affiliate, from its channel lineup on Tuesday.

On its website, WOIO explained that the TV station was “unable to reach an agreement with COX Cable” by the Jan. 1 deadline.

Lakewood residents — and thousands around Northeast Ohio — took their frustration to social media websites like Facebook and Twitter.

“We understand how frustrating this is for you,” according to the statement posted on WOIO. “We share your frustration. After all, you pay COX Cable 100 percent of your bill each month. Why shouldn't you get 100 percent of your channels?”

The station has been working to since October reach an agreement, “but so far have been unable to reach an agreement with COX Cable for the continued carriage of WOIO.”

“This is particularly disappointing because all the other TV providers in our area have agreements with us and those Agreements are fundamentally similar to the one we have been negotiating with COX Cable.”

Residents upset with the move were encouraged to call the COX Customer Service line at 216-535-3344.
