Ohio Chautauqua Looking for Some Talent in Lakewood

Does Lakewood have some talent?

The organizers of the Ohio Chautauqua 2013 event in Lakewood sure hope so.

They need some youngsters to fill some of the musical roles for the prestigious event.

Presented by the Ohio Humanities Council, the event — in its 15th annual tour — is making its return to Lakewood starting June 25 and running through June 29.

This year’s theme: When Ohio was the Western Frontier.

Ohio Chautauqua made a stop in Lakewood in 2011, when the city came face to face with the likes of Harriet Tubman, Abe Lincoln and Mary Chesnut.

This year, the event will feature the stories of naturalist and folk hero Johnny Appleseed; frontier aristocrat Margaret Blennerhassett; Iroquois chief John Logan; and the hero of the Battle of Lake Erie, Oliver Hazard Perry.

Each performance is preceded by a musical program — with tunes from the late 1700s — from 6 to 6:50 p.m.

Open musical auditions will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Jan. 9 and 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Trinity Lutheran Church.
