Zombies Walk the Streets of Lakewood

Annual Zombie Walk draws hundreds of "zombies" to Lakewood hungry for brains.

On Saturday, nearly 500 zombies took to the streets of Lakewood — no, they weren't looking for brains.

They were hoping to raise money and food for Harvest for Hunger program through the  Cleveland Food Bank.

Starting at the , volunteers strutted their stuff down Detroit Avenue. To participate in the event, the would-be zombies donated $5 donation and two canned goods.

Even organizer Joe Ostrica — of Old School Sinema, which produces low-budget horror films — said that Lakewood's zombies last year helped raise 1,769 pounds of food.

There are two Zombie Walks in Lakewood each year — once in April and again in September.

"Every April and September, for one Saturday afternoon, the streets of Lakewood will witness a massive zombie outbtreak, all in the name of a good cause," Ostrica said.
