Suspect Is Accused of Raping a 13-Year-Old Girl (Updated)

Rape suspect Michael Yeckley was arraigned Monday morning in .

Yeckley, 21, of Willowick, was arrested on a warrant Friday evening.

Yeckley is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl, Mentor Police Lt. Tom Powers said.

Yeckley is suspected of bringing the girl to a motel in Mentor on April 21, plying her with alcohol and then having sex with her, Powers said.

Attorney Joseph Morse represented Yeckley in court Monday. He told Mentor Municipal Court Judge John Trebets that Yeckley, as a "life-long member of the community," would not try to run away. Consequently, Morse asked Trebets for a reasonable bond.

Mentor Court Liaison Officer Martha Eyman noted that Yeckley has previously been  convicted of misdemeanor cases of theft, aggravated menacing and carrying a concealed weapon in Willoughby Municipal Court.

Yeckley also faces a charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in Lake County Court of Common Pleas from an unrelated case in Eastlake.

In that case, Yeckley is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl while he was 18, Eastlake Police Lt. Bill Gutowski said.

Mentor Municipal Court Judge John Trebets decided to set Yeckley's bond at $500,000, which was not posted.

Yeckley's next court hearing is scheduled for May 7.

after police received an anonymous tip as to his whereabouts.
