Veterans Day, Santa Arrives & Football: A Weekend Planner

Consider attending these events in Mentor this weekend

Veterans Day, Santa Arrives & Football: A Weekend Planner

Editor's note: This article was updated at 2:20 p.m.

Here are a few events going on in and around your city this weekend:

1. SANTA PHOTO EXPERIENCE & BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

Where/When: Great Lakes Mall, Dillard’s south concourse, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday. These hours will continue through the holiday season, Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Why Go: The holidays will be here before you know it, and a photo with Santa could be a good way to begin your celebrations. If your family is full of early risers, you can line up outside the food court at 8 a.m. to catch Santa arriving at the mall on horse-drawn carriage. The mall will also host a special Santa breakfast.

Pricing: Seeing Santa is free, but breakfast menu items must be purchased. Photo costs will depend on which size or package you choose.

2. VETERANS DAY CEREMONIAL BREAKFAST

Where/When: Mentor Senior Center, 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday

Why Go: A day before Veterans Day, you can join area veterans for a special breakfast. You can also thank them in person for their service over the years.

Pricing: Veterans get in for free, guests pay $4.

3. MENTOR CARDINALS FACE ST. EDWARD

Where/When: Byers Field in Parma, 7 p.m. on Saturday

Why Go: The Cardinals take on top-seeded St. Edward in this second-round playoff tilt. Mentor kept up its high-scoring ways last week in the win against Warren G. Harding. Will the kids in red be able to score like that on St. Edward? It should be an exciting night of football for Mentorites who choose to make the trip to Parma.

Pricing: Tickets are still on sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Mentor Athletic Department for $7. They will cost $9 if purchased at the gate.

4. VETERANS DAY CEREMONY

Where/When: Flag Memorial on Civic Center Blvd., 11 a.m. on Sunday

Why Go: This holiday doesn't seem to receive the same attention that others do, but it's as important as any we celebrate. Doug Koman, Commander of American Legion Post 352, will be on hand to lead this ceremony hosted by the VFW and American Legion. U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Bob Zonneville will serve as the speaker.

Pricing: Free.
