Woman Accused Of Driving While Intoxicated

Mentor Police arrested a woman and charged her with operating a vehicle while intoxicated after they received calls that she was driving erratically through the city.

Drivers called police Monday afternoon to tell them about a black Jeep Liberty that was driving dangerously on the eastbound lanes of Route 2 when an officer spotted the car, Mentor Police Lt. Dan Molnar said.

The policeman signalled for the Jeep to stop and went to talk to the driver near the Center Street exit.

The driver -- Jennifer Gruver, 37, of Painesville -- appeared lethargic and her words slurred when she spoke, Molnar said. She also failed some field sobriety tests.

When police searched her Jeep they found .6 grams of heroin, three pills of opana (an opiate painkiller,) spoons and straws with residue on them, two syringes and a razor blade, Molnar said.

Gruver agreed to go to the hospital to give a blood sample for a drug test. The results have not returned yet, Molnar said.

Gruver was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, drug possession, drug abuse, and possession of both drug-abuse instruments and paraphernalia.

She was arraigned Tuesday morning in . Judge John Trebets set her bond at $25,000, which was not posted.

Her next court hearing is scheduled for Aug. 13.
