WATCH: Community Comes Together for Viking Victory Run

The Viking Victory Run, Community 5K and Kids Fun Run exceeded organizers' expectations by bringing in about $16,500 — more than twice what they expected to raise

Sunday's was such a success, organizers already are thinking ahead to next year's event.

This weekend's 5k and kids fun run kicked off at and Memorial Stadium and raised about $16,500 for the elementary schools. Not only that, but organizer Todd Davy said it accomplished another goal: It brought the North Canton community closer together as it works to .

"Our original goal was to give something back to the schools," Davy said. "We wanted to encourage our kids to be fit. We wanted to get our families out running. And we wanted to unite the four elementary schools as we transition into next year."

Davy said he's pleased with the response from the school district and the community in putting the event together and in participating Sunday.

"We've exceeded all of our expectations," he said. "We had volunteers from all over the district, from every school. We had help from the principals, from the superintendent. We just can't say enough about what the staff has done for us."
