Solon Show Choir Festival Transforms into Competition Next Year

Music in Motion Director Gary Lewis announced Saturday at the 25th Anniversary Show Choir Festival that Solon High School will be hosting a local show choir competition next year.
Lewis invited the nights performing guestsΒ βΒ high school show choirs from Euclid, Garfield Heights, Medina, and TwinsburgΒ βΒ to be next yearβs first participants.
Saturday's festival featured a commemoration of the choirβs past years of creative performances. Throughout the night the choir showed a moving video highlighting each year and class of students before each guest performer. Additionally, on display in the nearby hallways were costumes of past performances and the many trophies won over the years.
Lewis gave a big thank-you to past Music in Motion Directors.

The night opened with a video introducing the audience to the hard work and dedication it takes to produce winning performances, and the choirsβ fun and humorous presentation in the video sparked laughter in the audience.
All the choirs performed with complicated and intricate choreography and harmonizations with multiple lyrics in singing. These groups are very talented. Next yearβs competition judges have their work cut out for them.

Music in Motion, Solon
Music in Motion of the host Solon High School performed, βlive.work.play,β a theme exploring the excitement of landing the dream job, singing:Β Industry, Working Man/Pressure, Hold On, Material Girl/Beautiful, Dirty, Rich, Peace of Mind/ Bang The Drum All Day,Β andΒ Working For The Weekend.
This group brought professionalism into their attire; girls dressed in rich magenta business suits, and guys wearing a darker red business suit. Women quickly transformed outfits by simply removing the top coat to reveal a shinny sequined tank top. Β
Great Expectations, Twinsburg High School
Great Expectations from Twinsburg High School performed, βItβs Not Easy Being Greenβ a theme allowing the choir to creatively express feelings of inadequacy, singing:Β Itβs Not Easy Beinβ Green, Misunderstood, Creep,Β andΒ I Donβt Care Anymore/Break It.
The group dressed girls in feathered green dresses; and guys in, green coats and black-and-white checkered pants.
Varsity Chorale, Euclid High School
Varsity Chorale of Euclid High School was the first to perform. Euclid's show, βNo More Drama,β creatively expresses drama involved in break-ups as the theme for their show. Songs included: No More Drama, If Thatβs What It Is, Ordinary World, Undo it, Bad Romance, and Movinβ on Up.
The group opened in black dresses and red suits followed by a costume change; for girls, into black leggings and blue sequined dress-length tank tops; and for guys, into black pants and orange-and-black leather coats.
Music Express, Garfield Heights High School
Music Express of Garfield Heights High School was second to perform. With a show called βDonβt Stop Movinβ!β they used an energetic theme characterized by complicated choreography involving flips. Songs in the show included: Free, Brown Derby Jump, When You Come Home, Get it Together, and Donβt Stop Movinβ!
The choir started in beige suits and dresses, and later changed; girls into, black sequined leggings and black with bright green lighting patterned dress length tank tops; and guys into, Β jeans and un-tucked black-collared button-down shirts.
Encore Entertainment Company, Medina High School
Encore Entertainment Company of Medina High School performed third with βAs We Danced Through the Night.β The group sang: Into the Night, Fosse Medley, Sun and Moon, Geek in the Pink, Evacuate the Dance Floor, and Animal/Party Animal. Β
Encore performed wearing black and silver outfits; girls in, sequined dresses; and guys in, black shirts and silver suits. Followed by a costume change, girls in a yellow fishnet fringed tank top on top of a silver sequined smaller tank top, and black leggings, with leather printed high heels.
