Oregon Winter Weather Update: No Classes Monday for Many Area Schools
No classes in Portland school district; Portland State classes begin at 10 a.m. Avalanche warnings for central Oregon.
(Update): PORTLAND, OR — Just stay home, people. At least until mid-morning. The DOT is advising that streets and highways are extremely slick. Freezing rain advisories have been extended until 10 a.m. Monday for the Portland metro east side and the west hills. There is also a chance of snow showers developing later this morning. MAX lines are experiencing a few delays.
Also, KATU is reporting that the Central Oregon Avalanche Association is warning that warmer temperatures and additional snow are expected to increase the potential for avalanches. The forecast over the next week calls for wet snow in the Cascades, which would blanket the dry powder that fell over the past week. Those conditions could increase the risk of an avalanche.
If you're a Portland public schools student or employee, your day is a given. Schools are closed, as are those in David Douglas, Gresham, Parkrose and Reynolds. Portland State University, not so lucky. Classes start at 10 a.m., multiple sources are reporting.
