Spanish Prowess Earns Merion Station Students National Recognition
Eighth graders from Waldron Mercy Academy earned six medals and two honorable mentions at the 2017 National Spanish Examinations.

MERION STATION, PA –Several Main Line students earned national recognition for earning stellar marks on the 2017 National Spanish Examinations where students put their grasp of Spanish to the test. Eighth grade students from Waldron Mercy Academy in Merion Station brought home some serious hardware from the national contest.
The students earned a total of three gold medals, one silver medal, and two bronze medals, along with two honorable mentions.
"Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious," said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, "because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 157,000 students participating in 2017."

The students who received these honors are: Agustin Aliaga, Nora Burns, Jimmy King, Maya Murray, Elaina Stuhlman, Katie Turk and Vincent Vento.
Teacher Señora Carolina Kakos is extremely proud of her students hard work and accomplishments.

The National Spanish Examinations are a motivational contest to recognize student achievement in the study of Spanish and to stimulate further interest in the teaching and learning of Spanish.
The National Spanish Examinations are online, standardized assessment tools for Grades 6 -12, given voluntarily by about 4000 teachers throughout the United States to measure performance (interpretive communication) and achievement of students who are studying Spanish as a second language.
