Woman Tries To Steal $98 In Meat From GIANT

Lower Merion police reported the following incident to news media on Monday afternoon. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.

A 52-year-old Baltimore woman attempted to smuggle almost $100 in meat out of on Sunday, according to Lower Merion police. Sunday marked one week since the grocery store's grand opening.

On July 22 around 2 p.m., a GIANT loss prevention specialist allegedly observed a 52-year-old Baltimore, Maryland resident leave the meat aisle of the new supermarket, walk into another aisle and place the meat in her backpack, according to police. 

The woman then proceeded to the checkout counter, where she paid for several other items, but not the meat, which she left in her backpack, police said.

The woman was stopped in the GIANT parking lot and Lower Merion police were called. Police cited the woman for retail theft.

According to police, the woman had enough cash on her to buy the meat, valued at $98.72.
