Man Attacks Dad, 2 Cops in Narberth, Police Say

The following police incidents happened in the Narberth-Bala Cynwyd area in the past week, Lower Merion police told news media Monday afternoon:

Stolen vehicle: A Dodge Durango was stolen from the parking lot of the Bala Cynwyd LA Fitness about 3 p.m. Jan. 28, police said. Surveillance video showed a man entering the gym about 10 minutes earlier, checking in with his membership card, before exiting and driving away in the Durango. The thief apparently stole the keys from an unlocked locker in the men's locker room, police said. Investigators are looking at video evidence and perusing gym membership rolls to identify the culprit.

Assault on police: A Narberth man is charged with aggravated assault and simple assault after police said he attacked his father and two officers inside his home. About 10:55 p.m. Jan. 28, township police helping cover Narberth shifts were called to the 100 block of Wynnedale Road, where a woman said her son was fighting with his father. One officer tried to use a taser gun to stop the man's attack on his father, but it apparently was ineffective and the man then attacked officers before being taken into custody, police said. The officers and the father reported minor injuries.

Retail theft: A man and woman entered the Bala Cynwyd Foot Locker about 1:10 p.m. Jan. 29, grabbed eight pairs of running shorts, worth $60 apiece, and ran out, police said.

Attempted burglary: Someone kicked the front door of the Bala Cynwyd Radio Shack for several minutes about 11:30 p.m. Jan. 29, a witness told police. The door shattered, but no entry was gained, police said.

Marijuana possession: About 2 a.m. Jan. 28, a 28-year-old Philadelphia man was charged after a traffic stop at City and Bala avenues for lack of a license plate light, police said. The man told police a friend had left the marijuana in the vehicle.

Retail theft: Someone with a black trench coat carried out $237 worth of toothpaste, detergent and deodorant from the City Avenue CVS about 8:40 a.m. Feb. 1, police said. When the alarm sounded as he walked out, the man yelled, "I don't know why the alarm went off," kept walking, got into a gold Toyota Corolla and drove away.
