The NHL's Anaheim Ducks have signed  native and former  freshman goalkeeper  to a three-year entry-level contract, according to the Ducks' website. No financial terms of the deal have been disclosed. 

Gibson was selected by the Ducks in the second round (39th overall) of the . Still just 18 years old, the one-time student, who had originally planned to enroll at the University of Michigan this school year, now plays for the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League.

With Kitchener, he has posted a .926 save percentage, tied for the league's best, and his goals against average is at 2.81. He has a 20-10 record.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound netminder helped Team USA to win a gold medal at the 2011 world under-18 championships by posting back-to-back overtime wins against Canada and Sweden. Gibson was named as the best goaltender of that tournament.
