Bargoers Use Fake Cash, IDs, Police Say

Lower Merion police have reported two different incidents of fraud at Bryn Mawr bars in the past week.

About 11 a.m. Sunday, two men passed a total of four counterfeit $20 bills to pay for four $6 bottles of beer at Kelly's. Once the bartender became suspicious and held one of the bills up to a light, the men fled with their change, driving off in a silver minivan and running two red lights heading west on Lancaster Avenue, police said.

The men were both described as black, about 6 feet tall and stocky, about 40 years old with short hair and a thick African accent, police said.

The day before, about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, two 19-year-old Villanova students were charged with underage drinking and false identification after presenting fake IDs to the bouncer at The Grog, police said.
