Accused Scrap Thieves Heading to Trial

Two Scott Township residents accused of stealing scrap metal and trying to sell it are heading to trial on theft and other charges. Read about that and other preliminary hearing decisions by District Judge Gary Zyra.

Accused Scrap Thieves Heading to Trial

Two Scott Township residents accused of stealing scrap metal and trying to sell it are heading to trial on theft and other charges.

Joshua Popp, 29, and Amanda Mayfield, 25, both of Scott Township, had charges of theft, receiving stolen property and trespassing held for court during their preliminary hearing with District Judge Gary Zyra on Dec. 20.

Scott Township police said the two took scrap metal from the 200 block of Hope Street on Oct. 9 and were found trying to sell it at All American Metals.

One count of driving on a suspended license against Popp and a drug paraphernalia charge against Mayfield were also held for court during the hearing.

Charges held for court

  • Charges of drug possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia against Brian J. Burks, 39, of Scott Township, were held for court. Scott police charged Burks on Oct. 2.
  • Charges of accident involving damage, driving on a suspended license and reckless driving against Lisa R. St. Peter, 48, of Rosslyn Farms, were held for court. Scott Township police charged St. Peter on Sept. 9.

 

Charges waived to court

  • Charges of drunken driving and restrictions on alcoholic beverages against Melissa A. Subbaiah, 39, of Carnegie, were waived to court. Scott Township police arrested Subbaiah on Sept. 3.

 

Charges reduced or withdrawn

  • Receiving stolen property and conspiracy charges were withdrawn against Jennifer Bender, 25, of Glenshaw, while a retail theft charge was reduced to a non-traffic citation. Scott Township police originally charged Bender on Sept. 2.
