Violin Concert to Benefit Music Outreach

With all the ideas of what to do for St. Patrick’s Day, why not add a violin recital to the festivities?

Caeli Smith, of Chestnut Hill, is home from Julliard for Spring Break, and for the second year running, will be performing a free recital on violin to raise awareness and funds for her music outreach group, Rayos de Canción, from Julliard.

Last year, Smith spent time in Antigua with her group, using their training to introduce music therapy to patients undergoing care for cerebral palsy.

“We had really an incredible time. We went there not knowing what was going to happen, but we had the best possible experience,” Smith said of her trip.

She raised money for the trip through reaching out to donors and . This year, she is raising money to return to do more music therapy and an arts camp with local children.

“It was hugely successful, I raised about $2,500 which was just about what I needed for my share,” Smith said. “I was so delighted that I received so much support from the community from the neighborhood and beyond. So I’m trying again this year and hopefully it would be similar.”

The concert will be Saturday, March 17, at 7 p.m. at the , 8300 Germantown Ave. Smith will be accompanied by pianist Tim Ribchester.

The concert is free, but donations will be accepted to support the outreach group. For more information on the recital, see the for the concert.
