On Saturday, will partner with the Mars Home for Youth to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with more than just the traditional Mexican food.

A special “Art Fiesta” will be held at the church on Rowan Road. Proceeds from the event benefit the Mars Home for Youth, which provides a sanctuary for at-risk youngsters, and the Lutherlyn Day Camp in Prospect.

The art auction will feature action painter George Williams, a art teacher and a member of the church.

Jessica Kavanagh, head of public relations for Hope Lutheran, said Williams would create three live paintings at the event as part of his “Art Madness” program.

As an action painter, usually set to music—within 10 to 15 minutes.

Kavanagh said she expects Williams—who also performs at many local events and has been seen creating his art on the JumboTron during halftime at Steelers games—to create a canvas with a Pittsburgh skyline, a sports-themed painting and one piece of his choice.

“He’s the entertainment for the night,” Kavanagh said.

Williams’ work will be auctioned off at the event. There also will be a silent auction with other pieces by local artists—including paintings made by the church's Sunday school students—as well as an art sale.

To go with the premise, Kavanagh said a basket with an “Art of Cooking” theme featuring Pampered Chef items, an “Art of Driving” prize with tire and oil changes and a “Wearable Art” package with jewelry also will be auctioned at the event.

“It’s going to be more than just your standard typical art pieces that you’d see on display,” she said.

The auction starts at 6 p.m. with the art performance scheduled for 7 p.m. Bidding ends at 7:45 p.m. and winners will be announced a short time later.

There also will be Mexican appetizers, drink, desserts and other light refreshments at the event.

Tickets may be bought at the door on the night of the fundraiser. The cost is $5 for individuals and $10 for families. For more information, call the church at 724-776-3141 or visit the church website by clicking here.
